WAEC 2025 Reviewed Results Released
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released corrected results for the May/June 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) after discovering a grading error in some subjects. The review shows a much higher pass rate than initially announced.
What Happened?
After the initial release on August 4, 2025, WAEC identified a technical error in the marking process for the English Language, Mathematics, Biology, and Economics Objective papers. The issue was linked to the paper serialization method that mismatched answer keys for some versions of the exam.
As a result, the initial statistics understated the number of candidates who passed. WAEC temporarily suspended access to the results portal, corrected the scores, and has now made the updated results available online.
Revised Performance Statistics
- Total candidates who sat: 1,969,313
- Passed with 5 credits (including English & Maths): 1,239,884 (62.96%)
- Original figure before review: 38.32%
- Performance change after correction: +24.64 percentage points
- Drop compared to 2024: From 72.12% to 62.96% (9.16% lower)

WAEC's Statement
WAEC has apologised for the error and urged all candidates to recheck their results. The council assured the public that measures are being taken to prevent such issues in the future, including plans to introduce Computer-Based Testing (CBT) for objective papers by November 2026.
Final Thoughts
The revised results bring relief to many candidates whose grades were affected by the error. While the new pass rate is significantly higher, it still falls short of 2024’s performance, highlighting the need for continued improvements in teaching and examination standards.
If you sat for the May/June 2025 WASSCE, check your updated results now and plan your next steps accordingly.
